There was recently a good article in The Economist  which discusses the use of emerging technology within the CCTV industry.  This technology developed by BriefCam, an Israeli company works in ‘real time’ to alert security staff  to potential incidents which might be happening on CCTV.

The software works as soon as the video is recorded, and using monitoring algorithms, it separates out the background Images from the moving objects to create a database of information to create a synopsis.
